Our Program

Curriculum

Western Classical Music Foundation

At The Compton Conservatory of Music, our objective is to equip our students to analyze, create, and perform a diverse range of music. We achieve this by training our students through the lens of Western classical music, and teaching them to apply these skills to music that resonates with them individually as well as collectively.

We respect the rich tradition, technical prowess, and universal validation that is attached to Western Classical music. For this reason, we use it as a basis for training our students through scales, etudes, and select classical repertoire. We also recognize that Western Classical music is a small fraction of music available, and is likely not the music that sparks the passion of our students.

Consequently, we teach all students to apply the technical and theoretical knowledge they gain through classical music to engage with genres that are more familiar with them. In addition to their classical repertoire, students will apply their skills to styles like R&B, jazz, pop, mariachi, and more! The sky's the limit.
